Going back to when I bought my first house, my brother’s moving in gift to me was a slow cooker – he swore by them and since then in 2017, I haven’t looked back.

Review Summary

Here are the best black slow cookers in the UK today...

Crockpot Black Slow Cooker

CrockPot 3.7 Litre Slow Cooker

  • Good Size: The 3.7L capacity suits couples and small families.
  • Simple Controls: Two heat settings and a keep warm function make it easy to use.
  • Easy Cleanup: Removable ceramic bowl is dishwasher-safe.

  • Limited Capacity: Not ideal for larger gatherings.
  • Basic Features: Lacks programmable settings and a timer.
  • Manual Turn-off: You’ll need to remember to switch it off when your meal is done.

This is the slow cooker I own and I seriously cannot fault it! If you are looking for a slow cooker that firstly doesn’t break the bank and also gives you all the minimum features you’d expect, this is it.

The only couple of downsides I would say would be the lack of programmable features such as timers and the manual side of switching it off when finished.

It is also quite heavy, but excellent that it is dishwasher safe.

Geepas Black Slow Cooker

Geepas 3.5 Litre Black Slow Cooker

  • Family-Sized: Enough capacity to cook for up to four portions of food.
  • Removable Bowl and Glass Lid: Easy transfer and monitoring with cool-touch handles.
  • Cost-Effective: Uses less electricity and can tenderise budget-friendly meat cuts.

  • Chalk Dust: Using chalk may create a mess over time.
  • Chalkboard Wear: The chalkboard surface may wear and get scratched over time, impacting its appearance.

The Geepas Slow Cooker offers the minimum features you would expect, with 3 temperature settings (low, high, auto).

It also features a chalk board surface so you can write on the outside, however, I’m not sure how often this would actually be used. Probably just ends up leaving chalk dust everywhere – lets hope not in the food!

Russell Hobbs Black Slow Cooker

Russell Hobbs 3.5 Litre Chalk Board Slow Cooker

  • Family-Sized: Cooks up to four portions of food, perfect for families.
  • Chalkboard Housing: Unique feature for notes and recipes.
  • Healthy Cooking: Preserves nutrients and flavours, cost-effective.

  • Chalk Dust: Using chalk may create a mess over time.
  • No Timer: Lacks an automatic timer for convenience.
  • Chalkboard Wear: The chalkboard surface may wear and get scratched over time, impacting its appearance.

This Russell Hobbs slow cooker is a 3.5 litre family-sized cooker with a unique chalkboard exterior so you can add notes and recipes which is quite a cool touch.

However, realistically, I’m sure sure how often you would actually use the chalkboard – in my opinion.

It offers three heat settings, but lacks precision and a timer. While it promotes healthy, slow cooking, the chalkboard surface may wear over time, potentially creating a mess.

Morphy Richards Black Slow Cooker

Morphy Richards 3.5 Litre Slow Cooker

  • Convenient Timer: Set your desired cooking time for hassle-free meals.
  • Ample Capacity: Suitable for four main courses or quick family meals.
  • Automatic Shut-Off and Keep Warm: Ensures safety and meal readiness.

  • Price: Pricier than the other models however you do pay for those extra features such as automatic shut off.

This Morphy Richards easy time 3.5 litre slow cooker offers convenience with a user-friendly timer, ample capacity for family meals, and safety features like automatic shut-off and keep warm.

However, the price is more than the other options out there, but you do pay for what you get, so having those extra features could make all the difference for you.

Cooks Professional Black Slow Cooker

Cooks Professional 8 Litre Slow Cooker

  • Generous Capacity: 8-litre size suits large meals and gatherings.
  • Keep Warm Feature: Doubles as a buffet server, keeping food warm for up to four hours.
  • Versatile Cooking: Easily prepares a variety of dishes.

  • Size and Weight: Bulky and heavy at 7.5kg, requires kitchen space.
  • Higher Power Usage: Consumes 380W, potentially increasing energy costs.
  • Complex Material Mix: Constructed from various materials, may be more challenging to clean and maintain.

This Cooks Professional 8 litre slow cooker is a versatile kitchen appliance with a super generous 8 litre capacity.

It is ideal for cooking various dishes and serving at gatherings as it features a convenient keep warm function.

However, due to its capacity, it is relatively heavy and consumes more power. Additionally, its construction involves multiple materials, which may require extra care in cleaning and maintenance.

Key Factors to Consider When Buying a Slow Cooker:

  • Capacity: Consider the size of the slow cooker based on your needs. Smaller models are suitable for couples, while larger ones are better for families or entertaining.
  • Heat Settings: Check for multiple heat settings (e.g., low, high, and warm) to provide flexibility in cooking different recipes.
  • Material: Look for a slow cooker with a durable and easy-to-clean cooking pot. Many come with ceramic or stoneware pots.
  • Keep Warm Function: A keep warm feature is handy for keeping your food at a safe serving temperature after cooking.
  • Lid Type: Ensure the lid fits securely to trap heat and moisture. Some lids have glass windows for easy viewing.
  • Shape: Choose between round and oval-shaped slow cookers. Oval models are great for larger cuts of meat or whole chickens.
  • Design and Colour: Since you’re looking for a black slow cooker, consider the aesthetics of your kitchen and ensure it matches your style.
  • Price: Set a budget and look for models that offer the features you need within your price range.
  • Reviews: Read customer reviews and product ratings to gauge the reliability and performance of the slow cooker you’re considering.
  • Warranty: Check for the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure you have support in case of any issues.
